Sunday, May 24, 1992. One of the coldest Indy 500's in recent memory, led to one of the most embarrassing moments in Indy history as Pole Sitter for the '92 Indy 500 Roberto Guerrero in his very fast Green & White Quaker State Lola Buick special spun his car on a warm up lap before the start of this famous race. The Lola Buick was lapping average speeds of over 233 MPH that year, several crashes in practice & the race itself led to Indy being reconfigured for 1993 to make the cars 'slower' in the corners.
This has always been one of my favorite 'classic' Indy liveries, I'm sure if he had not spun before the start, he would have been a very serious threat in the actual race, he will always forever be remembered as a 'bridesmaid' of Indy. |
